What happens when two areas’ times meet?

Short answer: Only one area is protected at a time. Decide won’t save scheduled times that overlap, so this only happens when you protect an area by hand and another area’s scheduled time begins: that area waits.

Overlapping scheduled times

When you add or change a time, Decide checks it against every other time. If it overlaps one, Decide says “Family already protects some of these hours. Choose different times, or turn that schedule off.”, and the time isn’t saved until you change it.

When an area is waiting

If you started a protection by hand with an end time, and another area’s scheduled time has begun beneath it, Home explains, for example: “Family’s time began at 2:00 PM. Only one area is protected at a time, so Family waits until Work ends.” In Your areas, the waiting area says “Waiting · until Work ends”.

Decide doesn’t yet say at what moment the waiting area takes over. When the first protection ends, open Decide: Home shows which area is protected.

While another area is protecting, Begin in other areas is unavailable; Decide says when it will be available.

Ending a protection you started by hand, while a scheduled time is running, lets the scheduled time take over at once. Stop all protection, in Settings, is designed to end both.
